How does cloning work?

I just read about a dog they cloned so… basically they have the clone nice and ready, then what happens? Do they put the embreyo into a dog carrier and just let it bake like a normal puppy?

    Well, there’s a number of different ways to go about it but most current methods involve techniques developed in cloning Dolly the sheep. In short: they extract a small bit of tissue from the animal to be cloned; culture cells from this tissue in the lab until they have a good size population of cells. They then condition these cells by holding back nourishment and starving the cells for a bit. This causes the cells to drop out of the normal process of cell division and go into a holding phase in the cell cycle called G0. The cells are now ready to be cloned.

    An egg is extracted from a female of the same species, its nuclei (DNA) is removed and discarded. One of the cells to be cloned, in the G0 phase, is then inserted into the "enucleated" egg. The egg is then shocked for a very short time with an electrical current. This activates the egg natural developmental program. The developing egg is now a cloned embryo and is generally cultured in the lab for 3 or 4 days and then inserted into a properly conditioned surrogate female to be carried to full term. After the appropriate gestation period, you have a cloned puppy.
