Play or not.. cat and dog?

I have a 7 month old vizsla & a yr old cat. They are to the point now that they can sleep together & I can throw them both in the crate, if I am cleaning something I dont want them to get into, & they are both fine in there, although Taji*cat* is becoming quite inventive tryin to get out.

The thing is sometimes they fight/play. They both will start it sometimes Taji & sometimes Koyo*dog*. Taji is the only one who is vocal during these rumbles. Koyo’s tail is goin like crazy & she does a lot of mouthing teeth are mostly covered. Taji does a lot of talking, biting, scratching & very rarely will hiss. Taji does have all of her claws so I dont feel like she is out classed in anyway but is it common for them to do this? Sometimes Koyo will go on point and then race after Taji & other times Taji will do a scratch-n-run if she isnt getting the attention. I worry because Koyo is bigger & a puppy. I am concerned cuz I want to be able to leave Koyo out when I am gone for under an hr.

Sounds like those closed quarters are a little too close for your cat’s comfort. At first, they may start out as playing, but when the dog gets too rough, your cat is unable to escape. It sounds like your cat is just really peeved and getting fed up with your dog when he won’t back off. My suggestion is to open the door for the cat and let him out at this point. He’ll most likely dart out like a shot once he sees that door open.

well if if you have small dog, say Chihuahua, basset hound,Yorkie or a even a beagle they should be fine. but if it is a bigger dog like a Rottweiler, Alaskan malamute, st. Bernard then i would worry:)
