Relocating to another country with a pet?

Am currently living in China and will be relocating to Jakarta Indonesia in about 2 months time. I am bringing my dog with me, she is 1 yrs 4 months old and never traveled on a plane. How do I get her to get used to her traveling crate and should I give her some dog sedatives to keep her from stressing out during the duration of the flight? Some pointers would mean a great deal to me…since its a first for me traveling with a live animal. To be honest I am quite nervous about my dog stressing out more than anything…Thanks in advance for the advises.

You must read this, it’s a complicated procedure.

I would start by getting your dog used to being in a crate…and then being in a moving crate. It’s often recommended that dogs do not take sedatives before flying. This may actual harm them because they will be too disoriented. Also, if your dog is small enough, you may want to consider taking her as carry-on, which is something that may not be as stressful, since you will be next to her the whole time. I would make sure she does not whine constantly, though, as that would pose a problem with the other passengers for a dog that is being transported as carry-on. You must also read your airline’s guidelines for pet transport and make sure you fulfill the requirements in terms of vaccinations, vet check, etc.
