Where do you put a dog crate in a car?

When transporting a puppy in carrier crate (Plastic with metal gate) where do you put it inside a car? The front passenger seat, or the back seats? And also how do you secure the carrier crate safely into the car?

If it fits it is better to put on the back seat.I secure the crate with the seat belt, put the shoulder belt through the handle and the lap belt around the crate. You can secure by pulling it out all the way and letting it go back,it should lock into place.

I put Hogan’s travel crate in the back of my station wagon. His is not a plastic one. I use the same type of crate as I do for his sleeping area. If you don’t have a station wagon, you should probably not use a crate in the car. Dog crates are better used in station wagons and SUVs. Use a seat belt harness for a dog in a car. I wouldn’t put a dog crate in the back seat.

it always will work better in the back seat and they will be safer there too incase of a wreck or something bad happened

I use the same reasoning as why a baby seat is put in the back seat; it’s safer in case of a wreck, and the airbags won’t damage the crate or scare the dog.

I never really secured it into place since our large dogs had to be put in the back of a van, but you could pull the seatbelt across so that it wraps around the crate. I would not pull it through the crate anywhere since the dog could chew on it or get caught on it.

I have a small car and a big crate for my dog, so I only use it if i am going to be travelling long distances with him. in which case i put the back seat down flat and it goes int he back (it takes up most of the back of my car). if im only going a short distance I have a safety harness for him clips in to the seedbed.
